I got ridiculed for my love of Allen Ginsberg, but Howl blew my mind, and if it didn't affect you I am not sure what in the hell is wrong with you, as a writer first, and secondly as a human being. I was big into The Beats, but I suppose the weird thing is, with Ginsberg, the thing that had a real lasting impact on me was reading The Indian Journals. In terms of finding a place that allowed me to psychically hit achieve a good place to write from, they provided a philosophical framework for the writing in their modus operandi as writers, and their Buddhism offered a nice alternative to the hidebound Christianity I saw around me.
